Stairs are often prominent features of public spaces providing a safe and simple way of climbing or descending from one floor to another. The surrounding walls and banisters provide reassurance and protection even though we might be high above the ground. The repeating pattern of the every reducing stairs as they descend slopes or pass around curves make interesting visual compositions.
